Crawling! Mama!
I'm too excited to even think of a better title for this entry. Yesterday, Jack did two especially amazing things:
1. He crawled successfully for the first time. Not creeping, not inchworming, not movement-due-to-flailing-and-rolling, but actually two steps forward on his hands and knees. He looked really pleased with himself, then his face hit the ground in his excitement, and that was that. I'm sure he'll do it again soon, though! At the time, Johnny and I were doing a silly song and dance to one of those annoying Fisher-Price songs that's programmed into his toy piano, and Jack was looking up at us from the floor and laughing. We thought maybe if we kept up with our song and dance routine, he would crawl again, but he soon lost interest in us and fixated on trying to pull up to standing on the coffee table. Next time hopefully we can catch it on video.
2. Jack also said "Mama." I am sure that it meant nothing and that it was just a coincidence, but it was an "awww" moment just the same! He was laying on his changing table, and I was putting his PJs on him and tickling him. In between two bursts of laughter, he looked at me and said, very loudly, "Mama!" Even Johnny said, "Whoa!" from the living room. Johnny is sure that it was Jack's first word, but all of us moms know that the real first word doesn't come for quite a few more months. So the "first word" entry in Jack's baby book will remain blank for now, but I couldn't help myself from saying, "Yes! That's me, Jack!"
I'll post some pictures from the weekend later on. It was a perfect weekend after a very, very stressful week in which I didn't get to see Jack much. I made no plans this weekend, and Johnny was busy with finals for school, so I had a lot of quality time with Jack. The weather was in the 70s and 80s, so we went for long walks, visits to the park and just chilled. He was very jolly the whole weekend, and is doing well with the change to daylight savings time (waking up later in the morning now, yay!).
Hope you all had good weekends!

awwww....congrats to jack! more great milestones, how exciting. if it were me, i'd count that as his first word (bragging rights that he said mama before he said dada) hehehe.
Congratulations! It seems that just when your kid has got his normal routine going he does something to change it. Sometimes it's for the better (crawling, saying "Mama") and sometimes it's for the worse (teething). Either way, being a parent is got to be one of life's greatest jobs!
Aww! how exciting!
I am convinced that Jack's first word should be "mama"! How exciting that must have been, even if it really weren't intentional!! I'm also happy to hear that Jack is crawling!! Now wait until he starts taking those walks. It's just amazing to know you through the earlier days of being a newleywed to being pregnant and now having a baby that is just months away from being 1 years old! Time truly does fly and I'm so blessed to be able to watch Jack grow. He's truly an adorable little man!
I'm sorry to hear work has been hectic for you - those weekends are definitely something to look forward to after a week of hard work. Hopefully things get better for you.
What? Are you saying you are not going to take credits for Jack's first words? I say take it! Johnny will definitely get to claim plenty of firsts if he plans to teach him bike-riding or other guy stuff (i.e. Jack's first combo move on a video game). =) I'm sorry to hear that your week was stressful, but it's hard for me to really feel sorry for you when I heard how warm it is over there! Just today my friend and I were talking about how nice it is that it's going to be over 40 degrees on Thursday!
Awwww. Are you really sure he didn't mean and say 'Mama'? Maybe he's just really gifted and advanced. I'm expecting to see the 'he walked!' post any day now - I think he is as ambitious as his Mama.
Oh...I miss Jack's beautiful hair! But he looks great all bald too - nicely shaped head
Oh that is so exciting to hear that he is crawling and calling out MAMA....pretty soon it would be Mama this, mama that
Go Jack go!
