  • Renovations Are Done!

Well, exactly two weeks after we closed escrow, our renovations are finished! The crew did some clean-up work today, but everything is complete, except for the installation of the cooktop and the installation of the master bedroom ceiling light fixture, but those two things will be taken care of next Tuesday, a couple of days before we move in. Everything looks amazing. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves (and those "before"s will come once we've furnished the place).

Looking into the entry hallway from the (newly painted!) front door. Yup, that's the mirror that's hung in our apartment for years. We'll be putting a little storage bench under it, so people can put on their shoes before they exit.

Close-up of the accent wall. The red brass of the lamp matches one of the colors in the diamond-shaped decoration

Half of the den, peeking in from the entry hallway. The window faces the front of the house

Other half of the den, with a sliding door that goes out to the yard

Looking into the great room from the entry hallway. I love our new floors and molding! This is the yellow half of the room. The yellow color also extends into the kitchen, where there's exposed wall (there's not much exposed wall in the kitchen, though, what with the cabinets and backsplash)

The other half of the great room -- the green half . By the way, the beams are also painted the appropriate color, depending on which side you're standing on. Now my back is facing the fireplace side. The doorway leads into the hallway where the bedrooms are. You can also see the skylight in the upper left hand corner

Looking into the great room from the kitchen. Although the left side, from the wall behind me, is yellow, and the rest of the room, from the wall that the entry hall doorway is on over into the dining area, is green, the shades are fairly light, so it's not immediately obvious that the two colors are different ... plus this helps divide up the room

I love the skylight! Not a great picture, but there's a light diffuser cap on it so it's not too blinding. You'll also see we have recessed lights throughout. We're being good and using CFL bulbs for all lights in the house. The recessed lights have a rounded cap at the end so you don't see the CFL bulb sticking out

    Close-up of the redone fireplace

    Lovely new kitchen!

New master closets -- we each have our own set of sliding doors ... no more wondering where his half starts and mine ends!

Finished hallway bath ... it's nicer than the master bath now!

Both of the boys have ceiling light fixtures in their rooms that are sky blue with little white clouds pointed on them

    The unlit view

More pics to come after we move in ... but for now, I have to pack! Thanks for looking!

  • BEAUTIFUL!  I love the accent wall when you first walk in...what a nice touch!  The floors look wonderful and I LOVE your kitchen.  Really nice color choices.  Just think...you bought at such a good time and you did such wonderful renovations...if you decide to move in like 10 years you're probably going to make a nice chunk of change

  • Hi Beverly! Sorry I've disappeared for a while. Now that I have to study for the licensing exam, it's taking off a big chunk of my free time, and somehow my xanga life just slips through the cracks. Anyway, I love your choice of color and design for your new place. It looks really chic and modern. I've always dreamed of eventually owning a room with green walls, so jealous! Both Han's and my parents have been encouraging us to buy but unfortunately, we have no idea where we would be in the fall (pending my job). Anyway, keep me posted!

  • It is absolutely beautiful! Nice work.

  • Was Jack Planned? My husband & I are trying to have a baby and we are excited!!
