  • Reunion With Old Friends, A Walk in the Park, and MORE Food

We're taking so many pictures here that I have to do up a new post every few days, so as not to overload you all at once! Here's what we've been up to in the last 48 hours or so.

Yesterday, we had lunch with some longtime family friends -- Wenny, Jenny, and their mom, "Aunt" Alice. Wenny is about 1.5 years younger than I am, and Jenny is June's age. We used to all play together when we lived in Palos Verdes together. I hadn't seen Wenny since almost 10 years ago, and Jenny ... I don't even remember the last time I saw her! It was great to see them all again, and to have them meet Jack.

All we need is June to complete this childhood friends photo!

Jack was in quite the good mood after lunch

Today, we went to Daan Forest Park with Uncle Scott. It is a huge park (for Taipei, at least). It reminded me a bit of Central Park -- much smaller, but with the same kind of feel. We went there primarily so Jack could run around unfettered. He had a great time, and gave Uncle Scott quite a workout!

Jack led Uncle Scott on a wild goose chase around these flower beds

Jack reminds me so much of Johnny in this picture! Johnny has a childhood photo where he's peeking out from a tree, too

Speaking of the little one, two more random girls took his picture today. One of them kinda bugged me, though. She was clearly taking pictures of Jack, probably using the zoom on her camera, and kept following him around as he toddled around some trees, but never asked me if she could take his photo.

After the park, we walked to Ice Monster, known for its delicious shaved ice. Johnny and I went there in 2005 and enjoyed a huge plate of shaved ice topped with fresh fruit, condensed milk and a scoop of mango sorbet. Today, I had the same thing all by myself! Jack helped out a bit.

I heart Ice Monster's fresh fruit shaved ice

My mom got the version topped with sweet beans and condensed milk.

Also good, but I'm more of a fruit gal

And here I am, chowing down on my fruit shaved ice!

Now it's time for me to watch TV and eat some pickled frozen sweet and sour mango slices!

  • Look at YOU!  Still over there enjoying yourself!  Sigh~  I'm sad... I wish I was still there.  3 weeks really goes by way to fast.  I was really tempted to stay an extra week.  (No charge to change return date on airfare).... but I guess i didn't, cuz almost around the same time Sebby said, "You ready to come home bebe?"  And it sounded so sweet I didn't have the heart to tell him no, I wanna stay another week, ... or two, ... or three!!!   lol.

Hey, can't see your tummy in that Monster Ice pic!  I can't wait to see when you really start showing .. love the belly look.  ;)      Eat a few extra Taiwan breakfasts for me; ham and egg sandwhiches, shao-bing with fried egg (umm.. that's how I eat it), fan-twan (ohmygod, so good!)   .....you lucky ducky!

okay Ducky, I'm going to the freakin american market here so I can make my own breakfast.

    *muah!

  • I'm still jealous! I've never been out of the U.S! =( You look great in all of your pictures. With all the walking you are doing, you don't have to worry about gaining any weight! =) And I think the ice cream with fruit looks ALOT better with beans. It's the weirdest thing...I've never, ever heard of putting beans on ice cream. =) I hope you and Jack are having fun!

  • Hey, I just noticed you're a lifetime Xanga member! I just joined the lifetime membership.  I already paid 5 separate premium fees since I started... So I think i should just do the lifetime thingy huh.

  • food in china are the best! u are so lucky, u get to have all the good food there.

  • I have to be honest. If I saw Jack in public, I would probably follow him around with my camera too, LOL. He is just TOO cute! Seriously your friends are named Wenny and Jenny? I love it!

  • Those shaved ice are so tasty, huge too! In the summer time there are always a long line! There are other good places to eat around that area. Also, the frozen sweet/sour mango (they are green right?) are so delicious. I remember we used to go to Hai Bah Wong to get them......*drooling*

  • Okay you're making me flipping hungry!

  • How nice you got to reunite and spend time w/ old friends. I want that shaved ice fruit sorbet dessert you're eating right now!! That thing is huge!! You always make me hungry when I see you posting pics of delicious food. I need to go visit Taiwan someday. :o )

  • omg, that shave ice with fruit got me drooling!  what an awesome time you're having over there.  how great that you're pregnant while there too and can eat to your heart's content...as obviously there's sooooooooooooo much good food there as we can see when you tease us with the mouth watering pictures.

baby surprise is in your tummy loving every bite of it too!!!  lucky baby!  lucky jack too!

  • @My_Enigma_Heart - I know, time passes quickly here! It'll be good to see Johnny again, though. I was actually wearing one of my mom's loose-fitting shirts in the Ice Monster pic, which is why you can't see my belly. :) I will definitely be having some yummy breakfasts -- there's this great stall that sells fan-twan near my parents', so I go almost every morning! SO YUMMY. And, yeah, good going on the lifetime membership!

@storyofmylife87 - We are having fun, although I'm sad that I'll be missing me and Johnny's eleventh Valentine's Day together. Anyway, yeah, I hope all the walking Im' doing is offsetting the 1000000 calories I'm eating a day. :) I'm also more a fan of the fruit on the shaved ice, but someday perhaps I'll introduce you to the beans. They're not your usual beans that you buy in a can at the supermarket -- they're specially grown to be used for desserts, so they're naturally a little sweet and not as meaty, then they're usually cooked in a sweet syrup. A lot of Asian desserts use beans, so if you and Daniel ever visit LA (which has a ton of Asian eateries), I'll make sure you get a taste.

@dsp245 - Yes, the mangoes are green! "Lovers fruit," hehe. I remember we used to get them frozen in styrofoam boxes when I lived in Taiwan when I was younger. You can't seem to find those boxes anymore, but we bought them fresh the other day from a vendor my mom knows. So good!

  • I love the cute pictures of you and Jack! When I have a high-res version of that Jack-in-the-tree image, I'll have to show it off next to the old one of me.

And I'm drooling over the delicious-looking shaved ice! (Well, the first one. The second one seems to have bigger beans than I'm used to seeing. That might be too much sweet beanage even for my cultured tastes!)

  • I had a lot to catch up on!!!  It looks like you and Jack are having such a wonderful time   Watching the video made me a little sad...you guys must really miss Johnny!  It's nice that you have the webcam though.  It's too bad Johnny couldn't have met up with you for part of the trip.  He could enjoy all the delicious food with you guys...mmmmm!!!  The shaved ice with the beans reminded me of how much I enjoy red bean ice cream

Well, Aidan is crying.  He has had such an unusually fussy day today.  I just wanted to say you look great and Jack is just adorable and looking more and more like a little boy.  I think part of it is the haircut...they always look older when they get their hair cut!

  • I keep coming back to drool at your fruit shaved ice....makes me want to hop on a plane to Taiwan just for that!
