  • Wanna See MORE Pictures?

Of course you do! First, here are some shots from Saturday's outing to the Ilan Cultural Center (where Jack had his papparazzi moment):

Jack was fascinated with this statue

One of the shops sold these fancy puppets

Daniel, Baby Surprise and I in front of a vintage mailbox

Drool ... these were bowls of shaved ice, various sweet beans topped with condensed milk, and little cups of steaming hot tapioca that acted as a nice contrast to the ice

Jack and I with some lit-up deer

Lit-up peacock. Unfortunately, Jack was afraid of it

Jack kept petting this dog statue

Guess who's behind this cow mask? Hee hee

Now, for pictures from yesterday's shopping expedition (just me, my mom and Jack).

In front of Taipei 101 (the world's tallest building)

Soon, my mom and I were hungry from all that walking, so we stopped for a snack ... two sinful ice cream snacks! Seriously, I've been afraid to get on a scale here, because I'm sure I've gained a gazillion pounds. I'm not sure Johnny will recognize me when he comes to get me at the airport in 11 days. "Who is this pregnant whale walking toward me?" Oh, well -- can't not eat when you're in Taiwan!

Our first snack: An ultra-creamy ice cream cone, with a croissant affixed to one side of the ice cream! It had a sweet glaze on it, and was so flaky and yummy with the vanilla soft serve

    Taiwan 226.jpg

Our second snack: An indulgent three-flavor Haagen-Dazs sundae in a waffle bowl. Jack loved to chew off bits of the waffle part!

After our snacks, we walked out to where there was a dancing water fountain, the kind that spouts out from the ground. Jack was so enthralled with it. If my mom hadn't been holding him back, he would have rushed into the water!

Jack kept saying, "WOW!" and "WHOA!" and "WHEE!"

    Taiwan 248.jpg

    Look how excited he is!

    Taiwan 251.jpg

Jack eagerly anticipates the water, which was making its way around in a circle around the plaza

Today, we went to lunch, then more walking around, with Uncle Scott. We were meandering around in an underground mall when Jack saw some balloons and requested that Uncle Scott lift him up to balloon-eye level.

    Whee, balloons!

Jack was also fascinated with looking out the window when we were on the 11th floor of Sogo.

    The cars are so small!

Just having some good old conversation on this here windowsill

Finally, I have a video to share with you. It's from when Jack and I were chatting with Johnny via webcam a couple of days ago. Nothing excites Jack more than seeing his beloved Baba on the computer screen. In fact, every morning, he points to my computer and says, "Baba, Baba" while doing his excited dance. He cries when a video of or call with Johnny ends. Here he's playing peek-a-boo with Johnny, but he's too excited to remember that his hands go over his eyes, not his mouth! Oh, please ignore my bad hair -- this was pre-shower for me!

That's all! I hope everyone's having a great week. My mom, Jack and I have 11 more days in Taiwan, then we're flying back to California.

  • I'm so jealous! However, the food, to me doesn't look that great! lol. The tapioca, with the beans and shaved ice.....doesn't look to appetizing! lol.

  • Ohh, I'm glad you took a video of that conversation! The image coming through the webcam is always cute but really blurry. I love how Jack is so excited that he can't do anything but screech in delight.

And if you've gotten fat, the pictures certainly don't show it. I think you look great! (And I don't mean "...in size.")

The shaved ice and croissant ice cream look good to me! I used to be skeptical that beans could be incorporated into dessert, but they're actually pretty good in the right dish, especially when there's something like condensed milk to offset the starchiness.

  • Wow, the shaved ice looks really good, I am a big fan of Tapioca. *drooling* The culture center looks really fun, do they do performance since it's CNY?? Enjoy your time there and be safe.

  • @storyofmylife87 - I know, it looks and sounds a little weird, but it's really good once you've had it! :)

@dsp245 - Yup, they did have a dragon dance and a magic show! Jack enjoyed the dragon dance. :)

  • Gosh I love these little slices of your time over in Taiwan with Jack and your parents! He is soooo cute. Dammit, Beverly...I'mma have to kill you for having such a cute kid. It sends all my "bio clock" things waking up. hahaha.

Jack is irresistable! So cute how excited he is to talk with his dad!

  • So adorable! I love the video! It's great! :)

  • gawd, we all love jack!  I wanna hug him to death!  haha (in a nice, loving way, of course).

I'm back in cali already.  And I miss Taiwan already!  Enjoy the rest of your stay there!

  • I LOVE that video!  :)   He's such a star.  :)

I think I have gained weight with your trip!  Everything has looked so good (well, maybe the exception of the jellyfish and the shaved ice with various sweet beans.  I don't know if I'd be able to bring myself to eat either of those.  Maybe if you didn't tell me if was jellyfish.  I just have this horrific fear of jellyfish...that's all.  :P )
I love those puppets.  Gorgeous!  And all the pictures you have shown us are absolutely the best.  Now, if you'd have been able to do a video documentary of your trip, that would have been the best!  LOL!  Maybe next time, huh?  ;)

  • Cute pictures Beverly!! It looks like you're having an amazing time in Tawaiian. Hey, they shaved ice dessert looks really familiar. My mom makes something similar.. I forgot the name of it! And we add all sorts of toppings like corn, carnation milk, and some other stuff. Its so YUMMY!! Thats so neat our cultures have so many things in common. When are you going back to CA?! I'm sure you miss Johnny and vice versa. Jack is so cute!!

ryc: Ok, Dionna was the last Bachelorette. Did you see that show? Well at the end it came down to 2 guys: Jesse and Jason and she picked Jesse. Now I think she has regrets and is trying to get Jason back on the next episode!! I think Jason is torn about her coming back and is now having to make the decision to take her back or move on to the other girls. Eeeeek! I hope that makes senses. That is what i got from the preview, but I've heard other things too, so I dunno what to believe. We'll find out on Monday.

  • An ice cream cone and croissant all in one? I'm not sure it gets any better than that! LOL Such great pictures. I'm enjoying all of these.

  • Beverly, thank you SOOOOO much for the sweet and encouraging comments that you left for me yesterday!  I really needed that.

It looks like you and Jack have been really enjoying your trip.  I LOVE seeing your photo updates.  Jack has a wonderful set of parents! :)

  • I just noticed on your profile that Baby #2 is due on Jack's birthday! What are the odds? I actually know someone who has 2 siblings and they were all born on the same day. Apparently Mom and Dad were busy at a certain time every year, LOL.

  • @glorycato - I'm glad you're enjoying the pics! And yes, for an unplanned pregnancy, Baby Surprise sure has a good due date. LOL. I guess that's October is a fertile time for me and Johnny.

  • What a cute video! And great food pics!
