Hope you all are having a great Valentine's Day! We took that picture of Jack last week and noted that it looked as though he were trying to wink at the ladies, so Johnny turned it into a little Valentine's Day e-card (ahh, to be a grad student!).

Johnny and I just realized that today is our tenth (!) Valentine's Day together! We first celebrated it in 1999, when he made me a little card and hand-drawn flip book and got me a bouquet of flowers. I don't remember what I got him (sadly, Johnny's gifts always seem to be more meaningful than mine! I'm just not that creative in the gift-giving arena). We've never been that big into Valentine's Day because it seems so contrived to spend extra money in mid-February just because. However, as you know, we're big romantics, so we always do exchange cards and at least enjoy a wonderful meal at home together, which is what we'll be doing this year. Last night I made brownies with a cream cheese filling, so tonight we'll enjoy those! (I figure for Valentine's Day, I can fall off the wagon a little bit, especially since I recently reached my pre-baby weight, yay!) And, anyway, to steal a line from Jody, every day is Valentine's Day.

This morning I met Johnny and Jack at the pediatrician's office for Jack's seven-month appointment. Jack's stats are:

    Weight: 18 pounds, 12 ounces (50th - 75th percentile)
    Height: 27.5 inches (75th percentile)
    Head circumference: 45.5 cm

His percentiles haven't changed; I saw on the growth chart that he's sticking perfectly to the curve and stabilizing now, which makes sense because he didn't gain as much weight from the last appointment as he usually does. Anyway, he's a big boy!

After the appointment, as we headed toward our separate cars (me back to work; Johnny and Jack back home), I handed Johnny his Valentine's Day card. When I got into my car, I saw that when Johnny arrived in the parking lot, he'd sneakily unlocked my car and put something in the passenger's seat! It was a card and a handmade bouquet of "roses" made from Hershey's Kisses. The "buds" are two Kisses placed flat side to flat side, and wrapped in red cellophane. Then there's a bendy green wire that cinches the cellophane together and forms the "stem." Johnny had wrapped 12 of these "roses" in some pink paper to make a bouquet. It was so sweet (literally, ha!).

OK, Johnny protests that all these crafts -- the Valentine's Day e-card and the chocolate bouquet -- make him sound like a pansy. He insists that I tell you that there was a booth at UCLA where people (mostly husbands and boyfriends scrambling for a last-minute gift) could make the Kisses bouquets. So it wasn't completely his idea. Now he's going back to building furniture with power tools and some wood that he chopped by hand.

Anyway, I couldn't ask for better Valentines -- I have my wonderful, sweet husband who, despite his busy school schedule, always does more than his share of the household and babycare chores so that I have less to do when I get home; my jolly, beautiful baby boy who is the light of my life; a wonderful, supportive family; and my marvelous friends, including you guys! Thank you for making every day a joy!

  • That's SO sweet, Beverly!  Your little ladies' man is pretty good at selling himself!  (Within the context of a personals ad, I mean...)

    Hehe...chopping wood.

  • Awwwww! That was so sweet for Johnny to sneak in a present in your car!! I love hershey kisses! That photo of Jack is ADORABLE. He does look like he is winking! :o )

    Happy Valentine's Day, Bev!!

  • Loved this post! You are lucky to have such a sweet and handsome couple of men in your life! Hope you have a great rest of the day!

  • Too bad I didn't have a baby girl or she would most definetly fall for Jack!!!! I'm unfortunately doing nothing for V-day this year, it's hard w/ the 2 boys and by the time we get home from work, we're so tired. But I did tell Tin if he was to get me something, it better be edible!

  • Happy Valentine's day to you, Johnny, and Jack!  Wonderful post!  I think

the handmade gifts and dinner at home sounds perfert!  Take some pictures

of dinner tonight if you can.  ;)

  • EEEK! So cute!!! All three of you!!!

I can't wait to tell Joe about what Johnny did...over our romantic, ambient, expensive, gourmet tasting-menu dinner. =P

    Happy Valentine's day!

  • Heartbreaker! I've got an awfully cute six-month-old over here... just imagine the super Northwestern legacy status...

  • LOL about Johnny's valentine craftiness beating up on his machismo.

And awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww on the valentine! He's even winking! What a Don Juan!

  • awwwwwwwwwwwww

  • Jack's personal ad is absolutely hysterical!  He is so precious anyways....but this is just icing on the cake.

I hope your V-day was very special!

  • What an absolutely adorable valentine card and I love his personal ad lol. Too bad Kenzie is 18 months old so she doesn't fit his criteria :) Glad to hear his check up went well. He's almost as big as MacKenzie lol!

How sweet that Johnny snuck the kisses bouquet into your car. Josh and MacKenzie got me a bouquet of flowers which were sweet but I hate to pay that much money for flowers that are going to die pretty quickly. The kisses bouquet sounds yummy to boot!

Glad your valentines day was great!

  • That is adorable and hysterical I was gonna say that it looks like he's winking Like Amanda, who is upset that Kenzie doesn't fit his criteria, I am saddened by the fact that Hannah is too old for him, too

This entry gave me some good laughs...between Jack's ad and then Johnny being afraid he was coming off as a pansy! I think it's very sweet that he's crafty and makes you thoughtful gifts (and a little girly, but that's o.k., Johnny...you're in touch with your feminine side ) Hehe!

  • As usual, LOVE JACK!  Hope that his personal ad is answered quickly, though I am sure that his inbox is overflowing by now.  LOL!  Steph would reply.....if Daddy would let her.  :D   Does Jack like blondes with beautiful blue eyes?  She is a bit bossy, though.  Haha!
As for Johnny.....does he not realize that the majority of us out here are jealous of you for snatching up, not only a very handsome man, but one that is romantic as well?!  What is he thinking of....PANSY?!  He is, by far, no pansy!  He is awesome.  Hell, if Chris had put effort into Kisses Roses for me I would just cry!  He did buy me a candy bouquet made the same way but wrapped in white cellophane one day when I was pregnant with Thade and had had a particularly awful pregnancy day.  I didn't touch the candy.  In fact, the bouquet has remained untouched for over 3 years.  LOL!  I refuse to damage it b/c it is like one of two times he was romantically sweet.  Haha!  Johnny!  Geez!  Tell him if he is gonna grab the power tools and his hand chopped wood that he could build me some looms, LOL!

  • OK, I had to actually look up Lothario... now I feel illiterate! ;) So sweet of Johnny! Even if he's embarrassed!

  • That pic of Jack is so funny...perfect for Valentine's Day.  I am thinking that would make a cute scrapbook page!  Sounds like he is a very healthy boy!  Rylan's next well-check appointment is at 6 months and I am anxious to see how he is doing.

Wow!  You and Johnny have been together a very long time!  And it seems as if you guys have a great relationship.  Happy belated Valentine's Day to you!
