  • Happy Lunar New Year!

For all my Asian readers ... Happy New Year!

Yes, it's Jack's first Chinese New Year. My parents are in Taiwan, and I don't have time to plan anything special, so this year it's pretty low-key. Jack doesn't understand yet anyway. Then again, Chinese New Years have always been pretty casual in our family. June and I get red envelopes from our parents and grandparents, we eat hot pot, and that's it.  (For those of you who aren't familiar with Chinese New Year, red envelopes with money inside are given to unmarried people at New Year's.)

Now that I'm married, I'm supposed to be giving out red envelopes, so I gave them to June and Charles when they came over last Saturday. However, they surprised us by bringing three red envelopes for Jack! One from each of them and one from my parents. Jack loved them!

    Whoa, what's that?

    Money money money!

Thanks to June for taking the pictures and supplying the red envelopes!

  • Happy Chinese New Year - Gong Xi Fa Cai!!!!

I have not gotten the chance to celebrate it in 10 years now *Sads* :( Since I moved here back in Jan 99

  • That's great I had no idea about the red envelopes so thanks for that!

  • Happy New Year, Beverly!! Your parents are in the perfect place for Chinese New Years! I can only imagine what the streets must be like over there. I think if it weren't for my family here, we probably wouldn't do anything too exciting either. Have a great day!

  • :) ... I know in Korea they do that too, the red envelopes and you have to bow to your givers and the oldest person there. I've done a few Chinese New Year celebrations because my friend Elane is Chinese. And I'm a meager 1/4 Chinese.

  • Happy Chinese New Year my friend!  How cute about the red envelopes for Jack:)  he is such a sweet and happy baby thats loved by all!

I'm sorry to hear about Atari!  Poor doggie...awww, hope he is better now.

I'll miss you guys, I'm gonna be in SoCal on April 11-13 for a wedding so maybe we'll have time to meet up again if the wedding doesn't kill me first (i'm a bridesmaid, the family is nuts hahaha)

  • Happy Chinese New Year! Tyson got some first thing this morning (7AM) from my nanny but it was still too dark out to take picts. Tristan was still sleeping at the time so I didn't witness him getting red envelopes. I'm not huge into CNY celebrations (but my mom is), so I usually don't give out red envelopes to my kids, but it's nice to do it just for the sake of taking pictures right?

  • Happy Chinese New Year!! :) I like the pics! :) Thanks for your comment yesterday. Put things in perspective for me!

  • Happy Chinese New Year, to you Jack looks thoroughly thrilled to be getting those red envelopes

  • Happy New Year!
And thanks, Beverly. I did get your note and I appreciate that you cared.
Jack looks so big! And adorable! He looks like he's about to eat those red envelopes...

  • Xin Nian Kuai Le!  This is a conversation I had with my mom. I: "Xin Nian Kuai Le!"    Mom: "Oh hi Amy, Happy New Year to you too. You know, grandma said that you won't be getting any more red packets because you are married."   I' "Um.. what red packets? I never got any." Mom: (long pause) "So, how's Han?"

Apparently, she's been keeping all my red packets for the last oh, 10 years!!!! I mean, she helped me out financially so I have no problem with her keeping it but I felt bad that I never properly thank my grandma all these years. They must think I'm the least grateful grandchild!

  • Happy Chinese/Lunar New year to you and your family.  I love that tradition and sure Jack will too as he gets older and understand what the red envelope means and what inside.  I curious as to why only unmarried couples get them and not married.  I know its personal but to my surprise I could have sworn your sister is also married LOL.  Wow was I wrong.

sorry for being a day late but wish you and your family all the best.

  • Happy New Year!

That's soo cute! Jack's first CNY!

  • Happy New Year!!
