  • Christmas Pictures Galore!

Hello, everyone! Thank you for all your Merry Christmas wishes. If you celebrate Christmas, I hope you had a great holiday with family and friends.

Johnny, Jack and I had a lovely Christmas with my mom, June and Charles. Unfortunately, my dad wasn't able to make it back from Taiwan, due to a really demanding work schedule, but he'll be here this weekend, in time for New Year's! It was very special to have my best Christmas gift of all, my precious baby boy, this year. It's crazy to think that last Christmas, I was only 11 weeks pregnant with Jack. I hadn't even broken the news to most of you guys yet! And now, Jack is a happy five-month-old baby. It's crazy, and definitely quite the adventure.

Of course, we took many pictures, so I'm going to share just the best of them.

On Christmas Eve, Johnny, Jack, Atari, my mom and I went to a huge park near my mom's place. There was a big lake with ducks, and several playgrounds. We all loved the walk. Jack looked around, rode on the swings and babbled in his stroller; Atari got to romp with Daddy.

Then, of course, there was Christmas morning. Ever since June and I reached our teens, we've been too impatient to open gifts on Christmas Day. Usually we open them on Christmas Eve, then sleep in on Christmas Day. I personally think this is a great plan for adults -- when I first mentioned it to Johnny years ago, he looked at me like I was nuts. His family does an all-out Christmas -- trimming the tree while listening to Christmas music and sipping eggnog, attending a midnight Christmas Eve service and opening presents the next morning. It's definitely fun, but I'm more for ripping into gifts as soon as the sun sets on December 24th.  However, Jack's arrival unites us in our viewpoint on when to open gifts, because I want to make sure Jack has the same wondrous Christmas mornings I experienced as a kid. (I believed in Santa until the ripe old age of 12, I think!) Plus, this year June and Charles were at a Jay Chou concert at USC until late on Christmas Eve, so we opened presents on Christmas morning.

We all got some excellent stuff. Jack got some new toys and a new outfit. Johnny and I both got some great clothes from my mom, as well as from June and Charles. Johnny bought me some new books (one novel and one kid-related book), PJs, bath stuff that I'd wanted from the Body Shop, a new diaper bag (picture of it below) and -- best of all -- a digital photo frame that holds oodles of digital pics and displays each one for a set amount of time (10 seconds is what he set it to). It was really sweet, because when I saw the box, I said, "Great! I'll load pics on it and put it at my desk at work." Then Johnny revealed that he'd already spent hours selecting and uploading pictures on it. I was so touched! I have it set to turn on at 9 a.m. and turn off at 5 p.m. each day. Now everyone at work can see all the different photos of Jack. We also have some pictures of our LBJ (Life Before Jack) on there.

The Tokidoki diaper bag Johnny bought me. I feel very spoiled, since I still have (and love!) the Juicy Couture diaper bag that June bought me, but Johnny saw me admiring this one once, and he said that since I love bags so much, I ought to have two diaper bags, so I can color-coordinate with different outfits. This one will be great for traveling through airports (which we'll do in late January) because it has a zippered top and a diagonal shoulder strap.

After opening gifts, we cleaned up and went to lunch at Class 302, this adorable Taiwanese cafe that has a theme of a Taiwanese classroom. All of the tables and chairs are actually desks and chairs from schools in Taiwan. It definitely brought me back to my elementary school days (I attended kindergarten, first and second grade in Taiwan). I think I sat at a desk identical to the ones in the following picture. For those of you who are Taiwanese, you'll see what I'm talking about:

They also have the best shaved ice there. Taiwanese shaved ice is made with condensed milk, not just water, and I'm not sure how they do it, but it's so fluffy. June describes it as akin to eating clouds, if you can imagine what that would feel like, and she's right.

Our mango shaved ice. That's ice that they've shaved into fluffy layers!

Then it was time to play with our new toys at home.

And today, Johnny brought Jack to visit me at work! Here's Jack sitting in my cube.

  • What cute pictures! And I agree with you -- December 24 is my favorite time to "do Christmas". If I had a choice, I would do it every year that way. I know that Emilee and Christian enjoyed spending Christmas Eve with my ILs... we did Christmas with my parents on Christmas day. I can't wait until they're a little bit older and can really enjoy Christmas (and I believed in Santa until I was about 11, as well).

I can't believe that you and I were both pregnant at this time last year. According to my calculations, I would have been around 9-10 weeks pregnant at the time. I had only told Matt on his birthday, Dec. 1st, so yeah, I don't think you had made your big announcement to us Xangans yet. :)

I love those Bongo drums... where did you find them?

  • sweet! looks like a great Christmas!

You'll get better at GH... you'll be a rockin' pro in no time, I'm sure! :)

  • Aw your Christmas looks great with Jack and everyone else! Glad to see you enjoyed yourselves!

  • Wow! All your pictures are adorable! I just love Jacks hair and his eyes. They're sooo pretty. You're lucky his hair is straight! When Kailyn wakes up it looks like she's been through hell and back. LOL =P

I LOVE guitar hero! I REALLY sucked at first, but now I can play on the hard levels. Its so fun! You should get a second guitar so you can play with your hubby, it's SO much fun! It sounds like you had a Merry Christmas! Your family is so beautful. And your mom doesn't look a day over 30! LOL

  • YAY! What a wonderful christmas post! I'm sorry your dad wasn't able to make it home for the holiday, but it looks like the rest of you had a great time anyway! Adorable pics of Jack as always! <3

  • I loved the pictures, and what a thoughtful gift for Johnny to upload all those pictures for you on the frame! That's awesome! Have a happy New Year!

  • what a wonderful christmas for your family!!! you all definitely look so happy and received many great gifts!!! i can't believe this is jack's 1st christmas! he looks so much like you beverly and i love how long his hair is getting! he looks like such a boy! the shaved ice looks sooo delicious! i've had the korean shaved ice, but it doesn't look nearly as good as the taiwanese one!! we'll have to try it next time we visit!

  • What cute pictures and sounds like an awesome Christmas. Just wait until next year when Jack can really enjoy the presents! It was so much fun this year with MacKenzie. Everyone kept handing her gifts and she'd bring them straight to me to help her open and then she'd get really excited. It was adorable.

  • Glad your xmas was great and so sweet that Johnny brought Jack to visit you.  Wish I could bring Adrian with me.....

Love the gifts you all received and sure your enjoying them.  Happy holidays.

  • Loved the pictures and Merry 1st Christmas to Jack! Looking at the pictures at the park, I'm so jealous of the warm xmas weather you have out in CA. I haven't brought my kids out for 2 months since the weather has been cold in NYC.

  • Adopt me, PLEASE!!!  Christmas with your family looks like so much fun.  Christmas with my in-laws is quite chaotic, and seems to get worse and worse every year.  :(   I miss those Christmas mornings where we would open up gifts and stay at home playing with them all day.  That is how my family does Christmas.  Though, I sorta like letting the kids open most of their gifts on Christmas Eve and then Santa brings them a few on Christmas morning.  :D
You guys look so happy.  It just makes me wish that I could have had Christmas with all of you, instead of forcing back tears at the in-laws.
Oh, well.  Johnny just looks over the moon about his Guitar Heroes!  LOL!  And you look like you have lost quite a bit of weight.  You look so pretty and happy.  And JACK!!!!  He just looks the happiest of all even though he really doesn't know what is going on.
Just to let you know, Thade has to point out, about once a day, that the baby on your card is Baby Jack.  :D   It is so funny.  And when MIL and FIL came over the weekend before last he took the card off the tree and said, "This is Baby Jack!"
I just love you guys' Christmas!  LOL!  ((((HUGS))))

  • Oh that hair...I can't believe that in a couple weeks it will be shaved off He will still be so handsome though! Looks like you all had a wonderful Christmas!!! I love the diaper bag. And that restaurant looks so cute Hannah has those bongos Jack looks so cute sitting in your chair!

  • That shaved ice looks AMAZING!

...Oh, and your family is adorable, too! =P

  • What a great Christmas! In some respects it looks like ours - sunny and warm. Though you guys had way more fun than we did!

I guess they are reluctant to induce me because my cervix is completely closed and barely effaced and therefore inductions usually don't work . . . dunno, just getting frustrated in waiting. I haven't felt a single contraction or anything.

  • awww, sounds like a wonderful time Beverly!  Jack is getting cuter! how is that possible!  he is a little bundle of cuteness, awwww.  Happy Holidays to you and Johnny and Jack and your families.  I wish my family lived closer, I miss them!  As I get older, I get more attached to my family, hahaha.

  • Hi Beverly! I loved looking at all the Christmas pictures you posted!! Looks like you and the family had a wonderful holiday!! Jack has gotten so big and CUTE. He is so adorable! Glad you are doing well. Happy New Year! :o )

p.s. I also read your post on Jaime Lynn Spears and I was appalled when I first found out about the news also. I agree w/ you 100%. My parents were very strict when I was growing up and I'm very thankful they raised me the way they did. Although, I think most Asian rents are pretty strict regardless. I just feel v. sorry for the Spears' family.

  • Awww, a horsey ride! Do you remember those coin-enabled rides outside grocery stores in Taiwan? You should put Jack on one of those horseys! I'm sure he'll love it (i did).  Hmmph! I didn't get to eat Mango shaved ice when I went back to Taiwan this time!! I tried to line up for it but the line was too long at this one place and it's out of season (sold out) at this other place! =(
