  • Fun Night on the Queen Mary

On Saturday night, Johnny and I attended my company's Mardi Gras party (we didn't have an office-wide holiday party last year, so this is in lieu of that) aboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach. It was a black-tie-optional event, and most of the women chose to get dolled up! Of course, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to dress it up a bit, considering that my usual work appearance since I've been pregnant has been lackluster, to say the least. I got a cute dress at Mimi Maternity, and I reused the cute shoes I got for Lily's wedding.

Before we left for the party. Here's a side view! I'm holding the dress down so you can see the belly better.

The Queen Mary itself was beautiful. I thought it was just an old ship used for parties, but apparently there are restaurants, bars and hotel rooms on there. Rumor has it that the ship is haunted, but we didn't run into any spirits that night.

Once we arrived in the ballroom, we picked up some Mardi Gras gear (beads and masks) and then sat down to enjoy dinner.

After dinner, Johnny and I visited the tarot card reader that was hired for the party. We all remarked upon her uncanny likeness to Britney Spears (in Britney's heyday, pre-shaved head), and it turns out that the tarot card reader's other gig is as a Britney impersonator! Anyway, the reader was good -- since she only told us good stuff, I'll choose to believe her! Johnny and I asked her to tell us about our baby. She asked if we wanted to know about the baby's gender. We didn't say we already found out. We said, sure, tell us. She laid out six cards, and the first thing she said was that she had a very strong feeling that the baby is a boy! (See, she's good already.) She said it's either a boy or a very dominant, strong-personality'd girl. Hey, there's no shortage of dominant women in both our families! She then told us that the first thing she saw in the cards was how strong our relationship was. Then, she said that our son will have a bright future filled with many accomplishments. The one thing she warned us about was that he's likely to be impatient (surprise, surprise!), and that we would need to work to instill patience in him, and that we as parents need to work to avoid manipulating or forcing things to happen for our son, and let him experience things for himself. Good advice! I'm very impatient, and it would be great not to pass that on to Baby O'Neal.

The reader also said that she saw more kids in our future, about two to three kids total. I asked her if I would ever have a daughter. She laid out more cards and then told me I would definitely have a daughter one day! I'll choose to believe that.

After the fortunes, it was time to dance!

Johnny and I never pass up the chance to take a self-taken photo on the dance floor!

  • Looks like a wonderful time, Beverly!!!! Lovely dress and you guys look so cute as always!

  • Sounds like LOADS of fun!
Seriously - your adventures really make me want to spend a day in the shoes of Beverly O'Neal!!!!!!!!!!!!  :0)
I LOVE reading your posts...they are always filled with such cool/fun/exciting news.

  • You guys are THE married couple.  Too cute.  I also love the dress.  And I love how there's a little belly now.

Seriously...if I want 3 kids shouldn't I start on it NOW?  But the problem is I'm not even married.

  • Hi Beverly. My name is Maryann. I clicked on your site by accident today from Shauna Hidlebaugh's site. So I just decided to say a quick hello! I'm from Shauna's hometown, Wilmington. Anyway, we have sort of a connection there. Also, something I noticed, your husband's name is Johnny O'Neil. My boyfriend's name is John O'Neil. Small world, I guess. Well, I just wanted to say a hello and introduce myself. Enjoy your week!

  • What a pretty dress!!  Looks like you guys had a great time!!

  • looking so hot pretty mama hahaha.  ok, so my friend Mike emailed me back and I think we are good to go for Saturday night.  We can go meet up with you guys if you will email me your address and Mike says he is having a tough week so we'll let you pick a good restaurant hahaha.  What time is good for you guys?  I should tell you I mostly eat vegetarian/chicken/fish but I don't think that should be a problem unless you pick a prime rib house LOL.  Ok, well, I'll check with Wawa as well.

  • or you can just let me know the restaurant you pick and we'll meet there

  • You look adorable in that dress!!! and I do believe you're glowing :)
Looks like you and Johnny had a really fun night.

  • Oh, Johnny seems like the kind of husband that most other husbands should be jealous of.  You really know how to catch them, especially since I can't get Chris to dance with me in the privacy of our bedroom.....let alone in public.  : P  That dress looks AWESOME!  I bet it is one of those dresses that will look better and better as you grow bigger and bigger!  :D

  • Whoa...I feel like I've been keeping up, but I've missed a lot! I'm glad your trip to NY went well. I'm sorry you kept getting sick How nice that your old co-workers threw you a shower!!! Hope you got some good stuff

Your dress was very nice and you looked great! All women are different. They say that if you're having a boy your belly sticks out more and if you are having a girl your butt gets bigger. Well, people couldn't even tell I was pregnant from behind, but by the time I was 3 months I had a little basketball. When I would tell people I was having a girl they would ask if I was sure. I was all belly! My mom said my face filled out, too, but I didn't notice that until I looked at pictures.

Congrats on the bonus That is terrific news and it's so great that you and Johnny will be able to build a bigger nest egg!

  • Hi! It's been a while since I've come around to read and comment..been so busy! I haven't had a chance to catch up yet, but I wanted to say that your pics are great! The side one of you before the Mardi Gras party is beautiful...I have a similar picture of my mom like that at her baby shower when she was pregnant with me and i just love it! Adorable dress too!

  • HAHAHAHAHA!!! Oooo, so much fun!! You look GORGEOUS in that dress!!! Totally you!

Argh...fortune tellers....kinda scare me now. Don't know if you've been to one in Taiwan...but one of Roger's family friend is a fortune teller and just hearing stories from her...can be pretty scarey, but also because his family is sooo into that kind of stuff. It makes me feel like they usually have nothing good to say and I don't have control of my life. :( Hehehe, but Britney Spears impersonator sounds like fun!!

  • I love that dress!!! Maybe I should go to Mimi Maternity and check it out. Are Maternity dresses super expensive? It looks like you and Johnny had a lot of fun! I don't really buy the whole fortune telling thing but I wonder if she was picking up some "strong character" from you and "impatience" from Johnny. I wish Han's company throws more parties; man, I need to have some fun!
